bumper stickers
Today my mom called me and told me my brother would be coming by my house to pick up my car and take it back to Atlanta with him for the rest of the year. I didn't bring the car to college with me, but I was still pretty upset to hear my car would not be home when I returned for breaks and such. The most depressing part of the whole phone conversation was when my mom told me that my brother, Andy, would take off all the bumper stickers I have on my car. I only have 5 or 6, but all the stickers are special to me. Think about what you can tell from just sitting in traffic and looking at the back of someones car. You can sometimes tell their political view, their stance on social justice issues, where they or their children attend school, sports teams they like, etc. I love everything about bumper stickers. Bumper stickers serve as a mini biography of the drivers who live in the same city as you or are visiting from out of town. Think about how many times you have run out for groceries and seen a car in front of you with a bumper sticker for the school you attend. Personally I love running errands and seeing the car in front of me sporting a big orange power T. Seeing the commonality in myself and those in my city makes me feel so excited. What are some of your favorite bumper stickers on your car or funny bumper stickers you have seen?

I just got a new car, so I dont like to put stickers on it just yet. However, normally I do like to put them on there. Since I live in michigan I see a lot of cars that have veiws on buying forgein or not. My favorite of all those is "Out of a job yet? Keep buying Foreign" because my dad and alot of other people I know have atleast one person in the car industry. As well, I love the BIG ORANGE COUNTRY T!
ReplyDeleteYea I hate putting bumper stickers on my car, I feel like they are gonna tear off my paint haha...but a funny one my friend has is "REAL MEN LOVE JESUS".
ReplyDeleteThats why I always put my stickers on my window so I don't ruin the paint. You can easily take it off with a razor blade and windex. I had a friend however, who got a pregnancy hotline bumper sticker put on her brand new car. She thought it was hilarious, I however would not necessarily want something so forward.
ReplyDeleteYESS! I always LOVE driving places and looking at people's bumper stickers. It definitely tells you about the drivers personality. They also get your mind working, whether you agree with them, or relate to them in any way. I'm sorry about that your brother took them off. In my opinion, thats pretty lame! But hey, that gives you an excuse to go out and buy some more!! ;)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I have a pink T on the back of my car!! GO VOLS!
Hmm, I tend to prefer a big orange Tiger Paw, but the T is starting to grow on me! But I do agree with you about how interesting it is to see how people choose to express themselves through their car decals. Through high school and undergrad, I had a vinyl decal of Underdog on my window, alongside a number of other Clemson-centered stickers that are still there (WSBF - the student radio station, and something from the Solid Orange campaign). For some people it is as much a statement of how they belong to certain segments of society, though I'm not sure about the people who still have political stickers from elections that were over 8 years ago.
ReplyDeleteInteresting post, though. I can definitely see how losing those aspects that defined the car as *yours* would almost be more upsetting than having to see your brother drive off with the car itself!
